Street Band unleashed a powerful closing kick to win the G1 Cotillion at Parx last Saturday. The $1,000,000 Cotillion is a “Win and You’re In” for the Breeders’ Cup Distaff. Street Band came out of the race well, and is already back at her Churchill Downs base, where she will do all of her major preparation for the Breeders’ Cup Distaff.
Street Band is traditionally a little slow into stride, and this was the case in the Cotillion. She normally gets her feet underneath her, and gallops very strongly to sit a couple of lengths off the lead. The quick early pace, and large field had her sitting in last about 10 lengths off the lead on the backside. This is where she started to use her high cruising speed to start picking up horses. She entered the far turn 3 lengths off the lead, but had to go 6 wide. She entered the stretch a length or two off Guarana, who was no match for her down the lane. Sophie Doyle gave Street Band a masterful ride to win by a going away two+ lengths.
