Cafe Pharoah becomes Taylor Made’s 117th Grade 1 winner!

Cafe Pharoah became the 117th Grade/Group 1 winner for Taylor Made with his determined score in the February Stakes (G1) at Tokyo Racecourse in Japan. The victory earned this Kentucky-bred son of American Pharoah an automatic berth into the 2021 Breeders’ Cup Classic.

Trained by Noriyuki Hori for owner Koichi Nishikawa, Cafe Pharoah overtook his rivals down the stretch and sailed past the wire, completing the mile in 1:34.40. In seven starts, he has bankrolled just shy of $1.9 million, with five wins including a pair of Group 3 victories last year.

Bred by Paul Pompa Jr., Cafe Pharoah is out of the More Than Ready mare Mary’s Follies. He was raised at Taylor Made Farm and later sold to Narvick Int’l at the 2019 OBS March Sale for $475,000 from the consignment of Eddie Woods.

He is the first Group 1 winner in Japan for his sire, American Pharoah.
