Taylor Made sales grad Super Stock broke through with a Grade 1 victory in the Arkansas Derby (G1) becoming the 120th Grade 1 winner raised and/or sold by Taylor Made Farm, and already the fourth this year joining the likes of Mischevious Alex, Hit the Road, and Cafe Pharoah. A conservative $70,000 purchase from our 2019 Keeneland September yearling consignment, the three-year-old colt by Dialed In was purchased by owners Erv Woolsey and Keith Asmussen and was bred by Pedro Gonzalez & P. J. Gonzalez out of the Closing Argument mare Super Girlie.
Already Grade 1-placed as a juvenile in the Claiborne Breeders’ Futurity (G1) behind undefeated champion Essential Quality, Super Stock was last seen on the Oaklawn circuit running 4th in the Rebel Stakes (G2) in his seasonal debut.
In the six horse field of this year’s edition of the Arkansas Derby (G1), Super Stock was mildly dismissed at 12-1 among stars like the undefeated Concert Tour and Caddo River. Super Stock stalked in a ground-saving position behind the lively pace of the aforementioned duo, switching out at the top of the stretch to drive alongside and to the front, crossing the wire by open lengths. The nine furlong test was completed in 1:50.92 and Super Stock earned 100 points for the effort adding to his tally of Kentucky Derby points to sit third on the overall leaderboard.
Super Stock also joins Taylor Made sales grads Helium and Sainthood as qualifiers for the 20 horse field of the 147th Kentucky Derby coming up on May 1st. Taylor Made is the only consignor with two or more qualifiers in the top 20 on the Kentucky Derby leaderboard.
