War Like Goddess tallied her first Grade 1 victory over the weekend in the Flower Bowl (G1) at Saratoga to become Taylor Made’s 122nd Grade 1-winning sales grad. The 4-year-old daughter of English Channel has won 6 of 7 starts, her third straight in graded stakes company.
Going off as the heavy favorite for the Grade 1 event, the Bill Mott trainee was content to track the pace from mid pack under familiar pilot Julien Leparoux. She began to tip off the inside at the quarter pole and went six-wide in upper stretch, taking command with one furlong out, and kept to her task under a hand ride to pull away and win by over two lengths.
She completed the mile and 3/8ths in 2:13.07 and earned a 100 Beyer speed figure for this effort, increasing her lifetime earnings to nearly $715,000 for owner George Krikorian. A Breeders’ Cup “Win and You’re In” prep for the Filly & Mare Turf, she has a spot in the starting gate for the Fall championships.
