Taylor Made sales grad Shedaresthedevil won Sunday’s Clement L. Hirsch Stakes (G1) at Del Mar Racetrack, making it her third career Grade 1 victory. Previous to this, her Grade 1 wins include this year’s La Troienne S. and last year’s Longines Kentucky Oaks at Churchill Downs. With her most recent triumph, Shedaresthedevil has earned a berth into the 2021 Breeder’s Cup Distaff. (G1) at Del Mar, now a proven track for the accomplished filly.
Shedaresthedevil came out smooth from the outside post. Guided by Florent Geroux in a five-horse field, he quickly angled her up to second place to track behind the speedy Venetian Harbor. Sitting in second down the backstretch, Shedaresthedevil kept a steady pace in the three-path with Paige Anne to her inside.
As they entered the far turn, Shedaresthedevil began to make her move and ranged up alongside Venetian Harbor, who proved she would not recede without a fight. But by the 1/16 pole Shedaresthedevil had shook clear and crossed the wire in hand, over three lengths in front.
“We sat right off the lead, nice, calm, and relaxed, and when it was time to go, she showed up like she was supposed to,” said Eric Gary, assistant trainer to Brad Cox.
With the victory, the Winstar-bred filly has amassed over $2 million in earnings for owners Flurry Racing Stables, Qatar Racing Limited, and Big Aut Farms. Taylor Made has a long history of selling top class horses for Winstar Farm. Shedaresthedevil was consigned by Taylor Made Sales as a weanling in the 2017 Keeneland November Breeding Stock Sale bringing $100,000 from Big Cuse Bloodstock.
